Daughter of Lem Stanley
Scott Township items: A little daughter of Lem Stanley was burned to death last Saturday
when the family home caught fire and burned to the ground. Her brother, who was a little older
than she, escaped from the blaze, but the little girl, only three years old, tried to save her
little dog, who was frightened by the fire and hid under a bed. She went after the pet and
both perished together. Their mother had been gone only a few minutes when the boy tried to
put more wood on the fire and in some way started the blaze. Funeral services for the little
one were held Monday forenoon at the house of C. Foust, after which interment took place in
the German cemetery.
